Abilities
Strike
Main attack, melee. Deals its power as physical damage to the front enemy.
Also on: Berserker, Cutpurse, Grove Warden, Guildmaster, Martyr, Paladin, Peddler, Sellsword, Skullsplitter, Squire, Thornweaver, Warchief, Wildheart
Brace
End of each round. Regains 1 armor per level (1, 2, 3), up to its starting armor or its Brace amount, whichever is higher. A hero with no armor still braces.
Also on: Crusader, Grove Warden, Sellsword, Squire
Riposte
Reaction. When hit by a melee attack while it has armor, strikes back for its power as physical damage.
Also on: Thornweaver
Bulwark
Passive. Single-target ranged attacks aimed at the friend directly behind it hit this unit instead. Area attacks are not redirected.
How to use Shieldbearer
Best position: front.
Three armor at level 1 is more than any other hero starts with, and Brace gives some back every round, more as it levels up.
Riposte strikes back at melee attackers while it has armor, which matters against packs of small attackers.
Bulwark at level 3 redirects single-target ranged attacks from the hero directly behind it, so place a fragile caster there.
Good teammates
-
Archmage
Bulwark can cover a fragile, high-value caster right behind it.
-
Squire
Armorer can add armor to Shieldbearer every round from behind.
Tier by stage of the run
