Champion tier list

How the 11 champions compare at high difficulty. Champions are in alphabetical order within each tier, because the differences inside a tier are too small to rank.

From the beta. These tiers are based on our testing during the beta. Balance can change and the sample is small, so treat them as a guide.

What each champion is good at

ChampionTierStyleIn short
AurelSSpeed and choiceEvery ally starts with +2 speed, and each battle reward shows one more hero. Taverns offer only three heroes instead of five.
IlseSSafe and sturdyEveryone starts every fight with armor, and Altar armor is twice as good. The catch is that selling a hero pays nothing.
SayoSAmbush hunterThe strongest enemy skips its first attack, and ambush loot is one rarity better. Everything in Shops costs 25% more.
YsoldeSThe strongest startYour run starts with three heroes, because your first pick comes with a copy. But every Tavern hero carries a curse.
PipATaverns and copiesEach Tavern gives two free heroes instead of one, but the bench holds only three.
SeoASteady incomeYour first reroll on every reward and your first corridor walk are free, and you earn gold from each enemy death. The entrance offers only three heroes.
HaleBTrinket hunterTreasure rooms offer one more trinket, and the strongest enemy is Marked for double damage. Battle rewards offer one fewer hero, though.
MorrowBGrafting without the curseSacrifice rooms never curse the hero that receives the ability, and the back enemy starts Weakened and Marked. The Altar can no longer remove curses.
NyxBChoose your own pathRooms have more doors, so you have more route options, and every enemy loses 1 speed. But the entrance gives you just two heroes, with no choice.
OrrinBHoard gold, then win with itGold becomes armor at the start of every fight and pays interest after wins, but rerolls and resets cost double.
SableBTrade blood for powerBlood Pacts are free while you have all your lives. Every ally starts stronger but with less health, and the gold from battle rewards is lower.

Which should you pick?

New to the game? Start with Ilse. She's free, top tier, and very forgiving in the early floors.

Buying your first champion? Aurel, Sayo and Ysolde are all strong picks, and each plays differently. Aurel gives speed and more choice in rewards, Sayo weakens the biggest enemy, and Ysolde gets the strongest start.

Lower tier doesn't mean bad. Every champion here can win, and some suit certain styles or maps. Pick one you find fun, and read its page for how to get the most from it.
